New Graduation Program and New Assessment Protocols

As part of its ongoing commitment to transforming K-12 curriculum and assessment, the Ministry of Education has announced its plans for the new Graduation Program and assessment protocols for students in grades 10-12.  With the new curriculum for K-9 already in place and mandatory for all students starting in September, these announcements provide more substance for the grade 10-12 program which is coming in next year and mandatory in 2017/18. 

Rain, rain go away: new roof for Bayside Middle school

A much-needed new roof at Bayside Middle school will soon be a reality thanks to $6.1 million in provincial funding.

The Saanich School District is contributing $1 million to the $7.1 million project.

The new roofing project will include new skylights and windows, new insulation and roof drains, as well as the removal of and replacement of mechanical and electrical systems affected by the work.

The project is proposed to be completed in two phases:

Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Royal Oak School

We are celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Royal Oak School. We cordially invite you to attend our Showcase Open House on Friday, May 13th from 2:00 - 3:00 pm and the Official Ceremonies on Saturday, May 14th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

Alumni, former faculty and staff, all School District 63 employees, and members of the community are invited to join us to view the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, the blessing of our First Nations Welcome Pole, viewing of school historical artifacts, a video presentation, as well as many other special events.

Call for Help with Syrian Refugee Families

As we are all well aware, Syrian refugees (both Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) and Privately Sponsored Refugees PSRs) have been welcomed in BC with open arms, including here on the South Island. Having started with placements in hotels, GAR families are being supported in finding housing, settling in, and getting their children into school. Unfortunately, there are currently as many as eleven GAR families that arrived in our region in March, but have yet to be settled into housing.

School District 63 music students perform at the Sidney for Music Monday

On Monday May 2nd approximately 150 music students from all over the school district participated in Music Monday at the Sidney Band Shell. Music Monday is the world’s largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education nationally and internationally. If your son or daughter is interested in joining a music program consider contacting your middle school or high school music teacher!
