Call for Help with Syrian Refugee Families

As we are all well aware, Syrian refugees (both Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) and Privately Sponsored Refugees PSRs) have been welcomed in BC with open arms, including here on the South Island. Having started with placements in hotels, GAR families are being supported in finding housing, settling in, and getting their children into school. Unfortunately, there are currently as many as eleven GAR families that arrived in our region in March, but have yet to be settled into housing.

Multi-Age/Ability Math at North Saanich Middle School is Making Sense

Three years ago the teachers of North Saanich Middle School committed to a multi-age grade configuration structure and philosophy for all grade 6/7 students. Having just moved into a beautiful new building our staff was willing to try something new. One of the many changes we made was going to 9 divisions of grade 6/7 multi-age classrooms and 5 straight grade 8 classes. There were many significant benefits of us going to this model for all our students.
