Message from our Superintendent

Welcome to a new school year in Saanich. While we are all looking forward to another year of connections, learning and engagement, we clearly have a hurdle or two to clear before we are fully up and rolling. Front and centre in everyone's mind is our collective hope for a resolution to teacher bargaining and a full and regular start-up on September 2nd. That hope is tempered, however, by our keen awareness of and respect for the processes that are currently underway, and the knowledge that those processes may or may not lead to labour peace by September 1st.

Message Regarding Report Cards

As directed by BCPSEA and the Labour Relations Board, school districts are not yet in a position to provide report cards to students due to the labour dispute. However, students are assured that marks for Grade 10,11 and 12 courses are currently being entered into the system and will be sent to the Ministry of Education by July 11. There are no marks or report cards for Kindergarten to Grade 9. In the event that we receive direction to produce report cards for Grade 10 to 12, we will do so and inform parents about pick-up through this website.

Provincial Exam Information from the Ministry of Education

The decision to alter the exams for public school students in English 10, Social Studies 11 and Sciences Humaines 11 was not taken lightly.

This decision was based on concerns raised by a number of public school Superintendents related to quality and validity of the marking in their district and region.

These 65,000 plus exams are locally marked and require a level of subject-area expertise that is not available in the majority of school districts because of BCTF job action.
