Learning Stories: Documentation Project

Pedagogical narration or learning stories at their simplest are recordings through video, photos or the written word of ordinary moments of a child's day. We use pedagogical narrations as a way to make children's learning visible to everyone. They are used as a tool to reflect on the children's understanding of the world around them, the theories they are developing about the world, and our practice as educators.

Over the last two years the Saanich School district has been developing a new electronic student information system called openStudent to be made available to all British Columbia schools. This project was undertaken because the current system called BCeSIS was to be decommissioned in 2015. At the same time the Ministry of Education entered into a contract with a commercial vendor from the United States.

Saanich Police helps Royal Oak take a stand against bullying

Saanich Police came out in full force to support Pink Shirt Day on February 26th at Royal Oak Middle School. Both ROMS and Saanich Police work together to take a firm stand on Bullying!

Message to the Saanich School District Community

At the February 12, 2014 meeting of the Saanich Board of Education, Trustees agreed to share information related to the recent BC Supreme Court ruling and its effect on the Saanich School District. The public is now aware that the court ruled in favour of the BC Teachers' Federation in its contention that the removal of class size and composition language from 2002 Collective Agreement and further class size legislation established in 2011 were invalid.

Bring Awareness to Bullying

Bullying is an issue in our schools, workplaces, homes, and over the Internet. On February 26, 2014, wear something pink to symbolize that we as a society will not tolerate bullying anywhere.
