First elected in 1999, Helen’s involvement in Saanich schools and public education began in 1989 representing parents at the school, district and provincial levels. Helen has written many articles and publications that help parents understand the B.C. public school system and advocate for their children’s education. She has also worked as executive director and events and finance administrator for the Learning Disabilities Association—South Vancouver Island Chapter. Helen has a Journalism Diploma from Langara and a Certificate in Public Relations from the University of Victoria with additional studies in accounting and business management. Helen is the board appointee to the District of Saanich Healthy Saanich Committee and has been President of the Vancouver Island School Trustees’ Association since 2008.

Jim was first elected to the Saanich Board of Education in 2005. Originally from Kamloops, Jim relocated to North Saanich in 1999. He was PAC President at his children’s school, McTavish elementary, before making the decision to run for the board of education. Jim is an Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Environment. In 19 years with government, he has developed a broad knowledge of the business of government and expertise in strategic planning, financial management and policy development. Jim has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of British Columbia as well as having studied accounting/business. Jim is the proud father two children, Conor and Madalyne. He enjoys coaching softball and maintains his interest in hockey and fitness.

Jane has served on the Board since 2005. Children always come first with Jane, and she believes that public education must ensure the best opportunities for all children to succeed. Jane is the elected Board representative on the B.C. Public School Employers' Association and the Vancouver Island Labour Relations Council. She is also the board appointee to the Memorial Park Society and the Peninsula Crossroads Community Justice Program. The board liaison to the Town of Sidney, Jane serves as vice-chair on the Sidney Healthy Community Commission. Jane and her husband returned to Vancouver Island in 2003 after more than 25 years of employment with the Prince George School District in various capacities from school secretary to executive assistant to the assistant superintendents.
